Taupe – a color that is hard to define.
Interestingly, Sherwin Williams has selected its 2017 paint color of the year and it is officially called, Poised Taupe #6039. The company calls this color the new neutral, a combination of brown and grey which is cozy, warm and comfortable.
Poised Taupe would work well as the main color in an open concept home. It looks wonderful against white kitchen cabinets and really lets metallic knobs and pulls shine. In living areas using it with pops of dark teal or plum would be lovely. This color would enhance dark wood stained furniture in a bedroom, especially with refinished antiques or reproductions.
I do agree that this color is a good combination of classic and modern. It also pairs well with grey blues and updates vintage sage greens and pinky reds. Don’t be afraid to use taupe in other areas too. Consider rich taupe draperies against gray walls or a warm taupe sofa with navy blue and white pillows.
