Choosing the right carpet for your home is not always easy. Keep these tips in mind when purchasing new carpet.
Don’t skimp on carpet padding. Carpet is usually made of rubber and adds a bit of cushioning, acts as insulation and absorbs sounds. Its most important job is to prevent the carpet backing and fibers from loosening over time. Thicker carpet padding is not always the best where foot stability is important. Always foot test carpets with the manufacturers recommended padding before purchasing.
Know your carpet fibers. The most common fiber in carpet is nylon and is easy to clean. Nylon is a very strong fiber and is best used for high traffic areas. Polyester is not as durable as nylon but it is stain resistant. Also, it is more likely to shed over time. Wool carpet is naturally stain resistant, extremely durable and resilient. It also tends to be more expensive than synthetic fibers.
New carpet adds great value to any home. Vacuuming regularly is the most important thing a homeowner can do for their carpet.
