Low VOC Paints are all the rage in the design and construction industry.
The term VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds. VOCs are unstable, carbon containing-compounds that readily vaporize into the air. Some VOCS are man-made and some occur naturally. As paint dries, these harmful VOCs are released into the indoor air at very high levels. Some VOCs are linked to cancer, liver and kidney disease.
Many paint manufactures are offering paints with low or no VOCs in an effort to answer consumer demand for safer alternatives. It is important to note that automobiles, pesticides, aerosol air fresheners and carpets also emit VOCs.
