Thinking of Spring

Spring Green Color.jpg

About this time of year is when I start to dream about spring. The grey skies and dreary days make me long to see more pale pinks tulips, Carolina blue skies and bright greens. So, I thought this would be a good time to discuss Pantone’s color of the year for 2017 – Spring Green. I admit that it has taken me almost a year to embrace this color. But I have seen this color pop up in fashion magazines, runway shows and even in my own interior designs. Pantone considers itself as ‘the color authority’ and knowing that they research and watch trends I have to admit that they are correct. People want to be optimistic about a new year and this bright and positive yellow-green called Spring Green does it’s job.

So now that I have jumped on the Spring Green bandwagon, I need to think about creative ways to use this color. The first and easiest way is to grab a bunch of flowers or plants from the store. Look for healthy flowers with bright green leaves, stems and pretty pink flowers. Grab a few bunches of flowers and add them to unexpected areas like your bedrooms or on a cocktail table. I like to place small and lush plants on my bathroom countertops.  It’s nice to be greeted with fresh colors in the morning as I reach for my toothpaste.

Another area to add spring green is with new pillows, furniture or accessories.  Don’t be afraid to accent and brighten up your living room with an unexpected splash of color in a new chair. Do you have a boring powder room that would be great with green walls and bright white trim?  If that commitment is too much, think about a new set of pillows on your bed or inexpensive lamps in spring green with gold accents.  Even a bowl of green apples on your kitchen countertop will brighten your day and get you ready for the new year.
