Pop of coral in pillow
Yea! You have finally finished all 8 episodes of “Tiding Up with Marie Kondo” on Netflix. You have purged all things that do not spark joy! And the next big question is…what do I do now? All of the clutter has gone to the thrift shops and everything around you is looking a little sparse. The walls are still painted agreeable gray or accessible beige. The neutral sofa and chairs that never offended and would go with everything are really boring! Well I have an answer for you, Living Coral, Pantone’s color of the year for 2019.
Living Coral is vibrant, cheery and enlivening! It looks great with blue for a nautical look and turquoise is its best friend on the color wheel. It’s great in a kid’s room because it works well with navy blue for a boy and is a nice update to pink for a girl. If you like lots of beige neutrals and white add coral with black accents to spice things up. It adds life to the overly popular monochromatic grays that are everywhere.
I would caution anyone who jumps on the living coral theme too quickly. One accent wall is great but all four walls with no visual breaks can be harsh. A powder room surrounded in living coral painted walls would seem like a cave but whimsical wallpaper with coral accents would be sublime.
My favorite way to use this color is an accent color. I love it on pillows with lots of pattern or in a piece of wall art. Draperies with a band of coral really add interest and can lead your eye around the room. Accessories are also perfect in coral to add just a pop of color to a grouping. Use a small coral piece to test the waters and see if it sparks joy in your life.
