Today, I want to concentrate on helping my local clients based in the gorgeous “First in Flight” state, North Carolina. Specifically, I want to focus on accessories and how you can easily find them around you. A question that I am often asked as a licensed interior designer is, “Where can I find affordable interior design accessories in Chapel Hill, NC?” My answer is very simple: when I need accessories, I go to my local HomeGoods store in Durham, NC.
Recently, I worked on a project where we needed to fill shelves to finish the space. The home had been lightly remodeled with new furniture. In addition to arranging collected books, we needed to break up the visual dynamic created by the wood shelving. The homeowner had collected many small vases, canisters, and memorabilia which held special memories. However, most items were small and about 10 inches tall, so it left a lot of empty space. I needed many affordable and larger pieces (12” to 24” tall) to complete the look while staying within budget.

I immediately ventured to my local HomeGoods store and purchased both large- and medium-sized baskets, trays, and sculptures. I placed the largest pieces alone on shelves to serve as statement pieces. I grouped the medium-sized pieces with the homeowner’s smaller collection in groups of three and five objects. I also searched for similar colors in the accessories that complimented and contrasted with the furniture and rugs. In the end, I helped my client achieve the look she had in mind with just a simple trip to a nearby store. But, don’t take my word for it.
