Affordable Interior Design – Part 3

This is my final blog post for my series on Affordable Interior Design in Chapel Hill, NC. People often assume that interior design is only for the very wealthy. But, I want to dispel this notion. My clients are actually those who desire to save money by avoiding mistakes that could later cost them their time and budget.

Everyone has that moment in a store when you see a particular sofa sectional and immediately fall in love. At the time, the color is perfect, it feels so good to the touch, and you just happened to see on social media that your cousin got a new sofa. You spontaneously purchase it because the salesperson assured you that it would be a great fit and you simply couldn’t pass up that limited-time offer. A month later, reality sets in. You realize your back hurts from sitting on it, lilac really doesn’t look good in your living room, and the sales pitch you fell for never mentioned that it would be impossible to remove the red wine stain your neighbor left.

The best time to give me a call is before any of those realizations have time to set in. When I begin working with a client, the first thing I do is determine his or her style by using magazines or inspiration from Pinterest or Instagram. I open up the conversation by sending pictures of suggested designs, and this inevitably turns into a dialogue where the client sends back their own saved pins or pictures. Next, I take the time to discuss the budget and timeline so that all expectations can be set before the project begins. Transparency is key during this interaction. Just because the lilac sectional looks great in a magazine does not mean it is the best fit for your small living room with three black dogs or your annual Super Bowl party. A designer like me helps you save money by considering the size of your space by taking room measurements first, by presenting you with cleanable fabrics, and by finding colors that accentuate your personal style. After the style, budget, and timeline are agreed upon, I then provide illustrations and list the items needed to complete the space. I research finishes, colors, and fabrics to make sure you have a beautiful space from the beginning of your journey until the end.

Sadly, some often do not call an interior designer until there are problems that need to be corrected with more money that was not in the initial budget. Let me help you avoid this huge mistake by contacting me today to discuss the home design you’ve always wanted.
