Zebra Swallowtail Nectaring by Jane Eckenrode Pittsboro, NC
Artist Studio Tour
On a beautiful sunny December day in North Carolina after a dreary week with our first snow flurries of the season my husband and I decided to take a of local artist tour. The Chatham Artist Guild Studio Tour is a yearly event that allows local artist the opportunity to open their studios, share their design process and sell their pieces directly to clients. As an Interior Designer, I offer art consultation services and help clients choose where to place their pieces. I love opportunities to help local artists connect with new clients and I attend the event yearly.
Woven Basket by Eva Green of Rabbit Patch Baskets in Chatham County, NC
Reed Woven Baskets
As we parked the car at our first stop, I noticed a table of beautiful baskets created by Eva Green of Rabbit Patch Baskets. Eva hand weaves the beautiful baskets, totes and especially loves a challenge of intricate and difficult designs. She uses berries, nuts, flowers, vegetables, and anything that will make a stain to dye the reed for her baskets. Eva offers classes in backet weaving so check out her website for information. Her baskets would look beautiful on a console table holding a collection of pinecones, yarn or magazines.
Haw River Painting by Jane Eckenrode in Pittsboro, NC
Large Landscape Painting
Next, we strolled over to Jane Eckenrode’s space. This large ‘painting in progress’ of the Haw River near the Bynum Bridge caught my eye instantly. I am so impressed how Jane captured the reflections in the water, the cloudy sky and the beautiful trees so indicative of the NC Piedmont area near Chapel Hill. This large landscape piece would be beautiful, framed on a foyer wall or over a fireplace mantle.
Art Journal by Jane Eckenrode near the Haw River
Nature Journal Page
Jane previously created exhibits for the NC Museum of Natural Science and now offers the opportunity for art collectors to glimpse of her nature journals. The above page is a great example of her design process. It tells a wonderful story and illustrates the great care and time Jane puts into her artistic passion.

Mosaics for Small Spaces
Lastly, I took notice of the vertical mosaic pieces by artist Janice Rieves. Interior designers often come across areas on walls that need a small piece of art for interest but are restricted by space. This colorful mixed media piece in the photo would look great in a narrow 30” wide wall area. If you would like more information on displaying your art or collecting new pieces, contact me!
