A few months ago, I worked with a wonderful pair of clients to breathe new life into their kitchen. They already had so much going for their space—gorgeous green and black marble countertops paired with custom-made hickory cabinets. But the backsplash? It was a dated stone tile that seemed to sap the energy right out of the room. It was time for a change.

The Solution: A Nature-Inspired Glow
To complement their striking green countertops, I chose a glazed green subway tile. Its glossy finish reflects just the right amount of light, while the rich, natural green tone harmonizes perfectly with the countertops. The transformation was incredible—the entire kitchen felt more cohesive, modern, and alive. The backsplash went from an afterthought to a star player in the design. (Take a look at the photo for proof!)
If you’re thinking about updating your kitchen, backsplashes are one of the easiest ways to add personality, style, and functionality.
Here are some of the top kitchen backsplash trends making waves in 2025:

1. Square Tiles for Range Hoods
Square tiles are having a moment, especially when used to transform range hoods into stunning focal points. Their clean, symmetrical look feels fresh and modern, and you can make the design pop by choosing a unique color or pairing neutral tiles with bold grout. Check out the example I’ve included—the golden tones and geometric repetition of the tiles give the range hood a structured elegance, blending beautifully with warm wood cabinetry and brass accents.

2. Modern Glossy Glass Backsplashes
For a sleek, contemporary vibe, glossy glass backsplashes are hard to beat. They’re perfect for brightening up a kitchen, as their reflective surface bounces light around the space. They’re also practical and easy to clean, making them a favorite for busy households. In the featured photo, the soft aqua glass backsplash adds a pop of color while maintaining a clean and minimalist aesthetic—a fantastic choice for modern kitchens.

3. Brick Backsplashes
For those who love texture and character, a brick backsplash is the way to go. Whether you opt for classic red brick or a whitewashed finish, brick brings warmth and a touch of rustic charm to any kitchen. In the example I’ve included, the weathered brick pairs beautifully with navy cabinetry and brass accents, creating a cozy-yet-sophisticated space with an industrial edge. It’s a versatile option that works for farmhouse, industrial, or even modern styles.

4. Copper Metal Backsplashes
If you’re looking for something truly unique, a copper metal backsplash might be your perfect match. Copper brings warmth and an artisanal feel to a kitchen, and its reflective surface can brighten up even the darkest corners. Over time, copper develops a natural patina, giving it even more depth and character. In the featured photo, the copper backsplash and countertop create a cohesive and luxurious look, perfectly complemented by soft blue cabinetry and brass fixtures.
How to Choose the Right Backsplash for Your Kitchen
When it comes to picking the perfect backsplash, start by thinking about what you already love in your kitchen. Do you have bold countertops or cabinetry? Look for a backsplash that complements or highlights them. Prefer a more minimalist vibe? Choose subtle textures or soft tones. And don’t forget about functionality—easy-to-clean materials like glass or glazed tile are ideal for busy households.
Above all, your backsplash should reflect the personality and feel you want your kitchen to have. Whether you’re drawn to rustic charm, sleek modern lines, or timeless elegance, there’s a backsplash out there to bring your vision to life.
